Lent, in the Christian church, is a period of penitential preparation for Easter. In Western churches it begins on Ash Wednesday, six and a half weeks before Easter, and provides for a 40-day fast (Sundays are excluded), in imitation of Jesus Christ’s fasting in the wilderness before he began his public ministry. In Eastern churches Lent begins on the Monday of the seventh week before Easter and ends on the Friday that is nine days before Easter. This 40-day “Great Lent” includes Saturdays and Sundays as relaxed fast days.
It is the season of the church year that follows the Epiphany Season. It is a time we set aside each year to remember the love of God that is poured out through Christ Jesus on the cross in His death; and His defeat of death, sin and Satan in Christ's death and resurrection that brings Eternal Life to you. It is a time of reflection and of asking for forgiveness, and remembering bad things that we have done.
Jesus Christ died on the cross. He freed us from our sins. We are living the best of our lives. Lent is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for his sacrifices and allows us to grow closer to God.
Most Christians view the season of lent as an opportunity to not eat the food that they tend to eat frequently, just a day to get some ashes on their forehead or maybe a time to give up candy or dessert. Most of them often forgot what is the real meaning or purpose of Lent. Jesus Christ spent forty days in the desert without any source of food, was tempted by the devil and sacrificed his own life on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins yet we forgot how important this was? The purpose of these forty days is to devote ourself and reflect on the past bad things we've done. Jesus did not save us to just do the bad things we did again and again and again. We should learn from our mistakes, practice good deeds, and thanks our savior for the mercy and good things and blessings he gave and will give to us.

Let us line our values and priorities with God’s desires for us and return to God with our whole heart.

Hi there! I appreciate your post about the “Lenten Season Observance”, coz it really makes me aware of the lenten season. Yes, it’s true that lent is a time to correct our bad habits and make ourselves a little bit more in Christ's image, and lent is also a time for sacrifice. During this season, we have the opportunity to sacrifice something that is meaningful to us, and it is really important to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteHello! Giving significance to the Lenten Season is indeed important since it is that time of the year where we remember all the sacrifices Jesus did for us, and the love he always has for us all. Keep up the good work!
